Dear PS/IS 229 Families, First and foremost, let me say that the entire staff hopes that you and your children remain safe and healthy throughout this challenging time. The most accurate and up-to-date news, resources and links related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is available on the DOE website (https://www.schools.nyc.gov/home). As you are probably aware, this week the DOE moved towards a new remote learning model for all school days until Spring Recess (which begins April 9th). Beginning on March 23rd, remote learning will be used to provide opportunities for students and educators to remain connected and engaged with instruction, while working from locations outside of the physical school environment. Remote teaching is a new way to engage with students and colleagues. Such a moment requires a willingness to take chances and learn. Our shared goal in this moment where the landscape is constantly shifting, is to ensure continuity of learning, student engagement and the prevention of learning loss. Our school staff will be utilizing Pupil Path as our primary online platform to deliver remote learning. That means teachers will be providing lesson materials via Pupil Path, and students/families will submit work via Pupil Path. Our teachers and staff spent much of the last three days trying to reach parents/guardians to: update contact information; determine each family’s need for a device (laptop or tablet) and/or internet service; ensure each family can access Pupil Path. Parent and student access codes for Pupil Path will also be mailed home. Our new website at https://229k.org will be up and running by the end of this week as well. Finally, we asked families to pick up technology devices (only if needed) and any necessary materials (determined by grade-level teams) from the school on Thursday, March 19th between 1:00 – 3:00 PM, or Friday, March 20th between 9:00 – 11:00 AM. If your child(ren) needs to obtain a device and/or internet connection now, please call 718-935-5100 and choose Option 5. Be well! Sincerely, William S. Kirk Principal
We understand that some students will have limited access to technology. Students will be able to access lessons and assignments at anytime after the scheduled class. It is however, the responsibility of the student to get the assignment and complete the work by the due date. Students and Parents should email or message the teacher if they need any assistance.
